2018 will be our third year of mentorship and diversity programs at PyData Berlin, and we are really excited to continue to support and grow our diversity efforts. Last year, we were able to support 20 attendees who would not have been able to make it to PyData Berlin, thanks to a grant from Python Software Foundation. You can read about Szilvia Téglás and Katinka Jeszenszki's reflections on their first PyData on our blog.

Our diversity program has two parts: one for mentoring (if you are perhaps a first-time speaker or attendee) and one for diversity scholarships. We welcome your involvement in one or both!
The PyData Berlin mentoring program was created to help first-time speakers and conference attendees. For first-time speakers, we will hold two in-person events in Berlin (one in March and one in June) along with sharing online resource to help support your first conference talk or visit. The mentoring program is for two main groups: mentors (those who wish to help bring more new speakers and attendees) and mentees (first-time speakers and attendees).
For mentees, the mentoring program offers:
For mentors, we ask that you:
For our second year in a row, we can offer scholarships in the form of diversity tickets (free or reduced price) as well as travel scholarships. We are first focusing our efforts on the local community (within the EU), so we highly encourage students and other diverse applicants to apply for scholarships. If you want to attend the conference, but are worried it might be a financial burden, please take time to fill out the application form and tell us why you want to join and how the scholarship would benefit both the conference and your work (or studies).
Want to apply for a travel or diversity ticket scholarship? Please do so using our PyData Scholarship form.
This year our scholarship is 100% supported by sponsors. Do you work somewhere that wants to help increase diversity in data science? Show your support by becoming a sponsor! For details on sponsorship, please email [email protected].
We hope you will take time to support and join our diversity programs, and we look forward to an amazing PyData 2018!
